PBSC Urban Solutions is proud to announce that we are now a signatory, along with many other players in the micromobility industry, of the Shared Mobility Principles for Livable Cities.

The Shared Mobility Principles for Livable Cities were created in 2017 by a group of international NGOs, following an initiative started by Robin Chase. The principles are a roadmap available to industry stakeholders who aim to improve the future of urban mobility. Each principle helps guide the actions of each signatory to make the future of urban mobility more sustainable and accessible.

Urban transport is an essential element in cities. Increasing urbanization is promoting constant growth and change, and urban mobility must evolve to adapt to the needs of each city’s population. First and foremost, transport in cities must be accessible to all. Then, it must also be sustainable for the long-term. Many issues that we can observe in cities revolve around urban transport and its socio-environmental echo, including sustainability, safety, inclusiveness and equality. The principles of shared mobility help stakeholders take these issues into account in the implementation, improvement, or development of new mobility solutions and infrastructure.

Many players in the mobility industry have taken part in this initiative - businesses, advocacy groups, NGOs, cities, and key actors with a stake in the future of transportation. PBSC Urban Solutions is proud to join the movement, alongside more than 200 global stakeholders who share the same values with a common goal - a transition to environmentally friendly and accessible modes of transportation for all.

Shared micromobility, and in particular bike sharing, offers countless social, economic, environmental and health benefits for cities around the world. Bicycles and scooters, both mechanical and electric - are more accessible for users and less polluting than other types of vehicles, allowing a better quality of life in urban areas. At PBSC we strive to develop solutions that reinvent urban transportation, making it healthier, more sustainable and more inclusive. Our vision is to promote bike-sharing and to raise awareness of its many benefits as well as of sustainable development, an issue that has become essential today.

To achieve our mission, we have decided to support and apply these principles of shared mobility that are consistent with our values. We base our decisions on these principles, while committing ourselves alongside industry players to constantly strive to improve our efforts and the quality of life in urban areas.

The panel drafted 10 principles to help us accelerate the transition to more livable cities:

1. We Plan Our Cities And Their Mobility Together.
Reimagining the development and planning of urban areas through urban transport and various infrastructures, for sustainable cities, pleasant to live in and accessible to all.

2. We Prioritize People Over Vehicles.
Encouraging the use of eco-friendly transport options that are accessible to everyone, such as bike share and shared scooter systems, in conjunction with public transit, as opposed to personal automobiles.

3. We Support the Shared and Efficient Use of Vehicles, Lanes, Curbs, and Land.
Encouraging the development of infrastructure that favors shared and collective transport and make efficient and intelligent use of the various infrastructures, thereby discouraging the construction of infrastructure that favors oversized vehicles.

4. We Engage with Stakeholders.
Consulting and collaborating with stakeholders who may be economically and socially affected by the transition to low- and no-emission commute options in cities. At the end of the day, each new system and infrastructure introduced into a new city should focus on creating a positive experience for all.

5. We Promote Equity.
Making public transport and shared micromobility offerings accessible to all - advocating equity and equality regardless of gender, income, ethnicity, religion, etc. We believe that transportation should be considered as essential to living and as a human right.

6. We Lead the Transition Towards a Zero-Emission Future and Renewable Energy.
The shift to zero-emission modes of transport will require innovative technologies that use renewable energy, especially electric vehicles.

7. We Support Fair User Fees Across All Modes.
Making fares fair across vehicles and modes for road use, congestion and pollution. In most major cities, shared micromobility systems should be well integrated with public transit and propose a truly affordable and easy-to-use option for daily commuters.

8. We Aim for Public Benefits Via Open Data.
Providing relevant data to the market to enable innovation and collaboration within the great mobility ecosystem, all while respecting the privacy and security of our operators and end-users.

9. We Work Towards Integration and Seamless Connectivity.
Improving connectivity between different modes of transportation in the same area to increase the ease and convenience of travel for users.

10. We Support That Autonomous Vehicles (AVS) in Dense Urban Areas Should be Operated Only in Shared Fleets.
Willingness to integrate autonomous vehicles into shared fleets, which would make them more affordable, safer, less polluting, with a better quality service, allowing the reduction of vehicles and congestion in dense urban areas.
